Useful Utilities

Local Sideral Time from the US Naval Observatory. A very useful link. Enter the RAS Observatory Longitude (hms = 105 31 44 WEST) and you can obtain the local sideral time. Very useful for seeing what is up and what is close to the meridian.
Julian Data Calculator. For your variable stars and other reports.

Steve Orlando’s astrophotos. Steve is a RASO member. This site is excellent because he furnishes detailed exposure data with RASO equipment. Highly recommended!
Al Kelley’s Pages. A excellent basic manual is available.
Colgate University Astronomy Resources. A wealth of information! Not only for CCD.

Variable Stars

American Association of Variable Star Observers. The largest North American organization, lots of resources. Publishes AAVSO, news letters, observing manuals, etc.
The Webb Society. The largest British organization, lots of resources. Publishes observers manuals, the famous Observers Guide series, the Deep Sky Observer, with both variable and double star papers as well as observing tips and other papers.
AAVSO list of international variable star groups. Find a group in your country!

Double Stars

The Washington Double Star Catalogue. The mother of all information about double stars. The folks at the US Naval Observatory are among the best when it comes to helping double star researchers, including assistance with observing lists.
The Journal of Double Star Observations. One of the best ways to learn about double star research is to read JDSO. All issues can be downloaded.
The Webb Society Double Star Section. The oldest and most active society dedicated to double star observations and research.
